OFA's hatchery
Each year between 70,000 - 90,000 Trout eggs are collected and brought to our hatchery from the three main waterways in Nordmarka. All fish used to stock our lakes are therefore from local Trout strains. Spawning Trout are caught using fyke nets, which are considered to be the most humane manner for catching larger specimens. All the Trout that is caught in the nets are released after collecting the eggs and sperm.
20,000 – 30,000 Trout are released into the lakes cultivated by OFA every year. The age of the fish ranges from 1 – 3 years. In addition, in years where there is a surplus of fish in the hatchery, about 30,000 fry are released into various streams and rivers.
Map book
OFA’s Map Book is a guide for anybody who wants to try recreational fishing in the greater Oslo region - 116 pages detailing all lakes covered by the OFA fishing permit. The book contains topographical maps and tables describing each lake with both registered species and estimates of their populations. Many lakes are also described with information on good fishing spots, camping locations, observed mayfly species, canoe routes and other useful information to help you plan your fishing trip. You will also find information on the prey available to the fish, and recommended angling methods. The old "secret" Arctic Char spawning grounds are also marked on the maps! The maps are at a scale of 1:50,000. The book costs kr. 250 and is available in leading sporting goods stores in the greater Oslo area.

Rules for fishing
The following rules apply in the lakes and rivers governed by OFA:
Field Code Changed
- Anyone over the age of 18 is required to purchase valid fishing permit (anyone under the age of 18 may fish free of charge with the exception of the Salmon zone of the river Akerselva).
- The fishing permit allows you to fish with sports fishing gear in all of the lakes and rivers cultivated by OFA (restrictions apply for Akerselva). Please refer to the map at www.ofa.no or in the Map Book.
- All fishing is prohibited during the month of October in running waters and within a radius of 100 meters where a larger river or stream flows into a lake. This is in order to protect spawning Trout. These are the only exceptions, otherwise all lakes are open for fishing year round.
- Some lakes allow for using 3 rods when bait fishing. See list of permitted lakes below. It is prohibited to abandon a rod while the bait is in the water.
- Some lakes allow for fishing from a boat. These lakes allows for fishing with 2 rods from either a boat, land or on the ice. See list of permitted lakes below.
- Some lakes allow for fishing from belly boat. Please note that the only allowed propulsion is using swim fins. See list of permitted lakes below.
- Minimum size limit for Trout is 25cm. Lakes marked as too densely populated (marked in OFA’s Map Book) have no minimum size limit.
- Maximum size limit for Pike is 70cm. All Pike longer than 70cm as well as Tench and Crucian Carp are to be released unharmed.
- All use of Pike scissors, jigs designed to spear fish, and "oter" are prohibited. Here, "oter" refers to the technique of using a rig with multiple hooks with bait, flies or lures which sheers out to the side against the current with the help of a planer board.
- In the Salmon zone of the river Akerselva: from the estuary and to the bridge Grünerbrua, the fishing season lasts from July 1st to September 30th. Beginning in 2009; the regular fishing permit is also valid for Salmon fishing in this stretch of the river. The minimum size limit here for both Salmon and Trout is 35cm.
- For the stretch from the dam Nydalsdammen and up to Maridalsvannet, standard rules apply in terms of minimum size limit and fishing season (including ban on fishing in rivers and streams in the month of October).
- All fishing in the stretch between Grünerbrua and Nydalsdammen is strictly prohibited.
- Gathering of Crayfish requires a separate permit.
- Relocating fish is strictly prohibited.
- All use of live bait (except worms and maggots) is strictly prohibited.
